What Is MIP? What Is MIP LED Wall?

MIP (Micro LED in Package) in the LED display industry is a chip-level packaging technology. Its process is as follows: Micro LED chips are transferred to the carrier board through mass transfer technology, packaged, cut into small packages, and then split and mix BIN , and taping.

The LED display factory then uses MIP packaging, carries out the traditional SMT process, makes a display module, and completes the production of the final display. The completed module can also support the surface coating of the screen (such as GOB).

What Is COB LED Wall?

COB LED display stands for “Chip on Board” LED display, which is a new technology used in LED screen manufacturing.

COB LED display technology offers a compact, durable, and efficient solution for high-quality LED displays, with advantages in image quality, durability, and heat management.

COB full flip technology

The chip is directly mounted on the PCB board, breaking the physical space limitation of the traditional SMD packaging process and realizing the possibility of a smaller pitch.

High reliability

The chip is directly soldered on the PCB board, eliminating the need for wire bonding. The soldering area is more than 6 times that of the traditional, which can withstand higher currents and the product becomes more reliable.

Ultra-low power consumption

The chip has low thermal resistance, and with the common cathode solution, it can achieve very low power consumption, that is highly energy saving. Even if it is used for a long time, there is no color block and no color cast.

High protection

The surface of the module is encapsulated with epoxy resin and has a variety of surface treatment processes, that can greatly improve the protection. The module surface can reach IP65, waterproof, dustproof, anti-shock, anti-scratch, anti-static, and anti-salt fog.

Lightweight

The “lightweight” feature of small pitch LED displays is a standout advantage in the world of visual technology. Very high contrast ratio (>20,000:1)

With flip-chip technology,the chip’s proportion on the PCB board becomes smaller. When the screen is black, all areas except the light-emitting chip become black, and the ink color consistency is good. Perfectly solve the ink color consistency under daily environmental lighting conditions, and the surface blackness is greatly improved. The black picture has no reflection and no edge optical effect.

Large viewing angle (175°)

LED module is converted from “point light source” to “surface light source” due to its much wider viewing angle. 175° ultra-wide viewing angle makes any position a central viewing position. Any horizontal and vertical angles can ensure the consistency and uniformity of brightness and color.

Support HDR

The COB display can get 3840 high refresh, up to 22bit grayscale depth, 2000CD/m2 peak brightness, >120%NTSC color gamut. And it supports HDR function, which can achieve ultra-high dynamic contrast. Even if when it is low brightness in a dark environment, it can restore the true color of the picture .

What are the advantages of COB LED displays compared with traditional SMD LED displays?

  • Protection: COB LED displays are generally more robust than SMD (without GOB) displays. In COB technology, LED chips are directly mounted on the substrate and covered with a layer of phosphor, which provides superior protection against physical damage, moisture, and dust. This makes COB displays less susceptible to environmental factors and physical impacts.  SMD+GOB will also have a protection layer on the surface.

  • Higher Pixel Density: COB allows for a higher density of LED chips on the display panel. This means COB displays can have smaller pixel pitches and, thus, higher resolution at closer viewing distances.   • Improved Heat Dissipation: COB displays typically offer better heat dissipation compared to SMD. The direct mounting of LED chips on the board enhances thermal conductivity, which can improve the lifespan and reliability of the display.

  • Uniform Light Distribution: Due to the closer packing of LEDs in COB technology, these displays often exhibit more uniform light distribution and better color consistency. This results in smoother images with fewer hotspots and shadowing effects.

  • Reduced Glare and Light Reflection: COB displays can provide softer light output with reduced glare and reflection, which is advantageous in environments where viewers may be close to the screen or in settings sensitive to light pollution.

  • Viewing Angle: COB technology typically offers wider viewing angles compared to traditional SMD. This is due to the lack of a separate package for each diode, which can sometimes limit viewing angles in SMD LEDs.

  • Contrast Ratio: The encapsulation in COB technology can lead to higher contrast ratios, as it reduces stray light and improves the black levels of the display.
